Coronavirus pandemic

A European study on the coronavirus and the use of information by the population, involving Iryna Sabat (PhD student) and Pedro Pita Barros, KC Health Economics & Management Scientific Director.

A European study on the coronavirus and the use of information by the population, involving seven European countries(Germany, Denmark, France, Holland, Italy, Portugal and the United Kingdom) and four European universities (Hamburg, Rotterdam Erasmus, Bocconi and Nova SBE),was developed during 2020. There were three waves of inquiry, the fourth is taking place. This project involves Iryna Sabat (PhD student) and Pedro Pita Barros. Funding ensured by several sources, including the Chair BPI | Fundação “la Caixa” in Health Economics associated with the KC.

Entry and price competition in the over-the-counter drug market after deregulation: evidence from Portugal

In the last two decades, many European countries allowed the sale of over-the-counter (OTC) drugs outside pharmacies. This was expected to lower retail prices through increased competition, though evidence of such price reductions is scarce. This study assesses the impact of supermarket and outlet entry in the OTC drug market on OTC prices charged by incumbent pharmacies.

3D printing of your pills

We all know what a pharmacy is: a place where we can obtain chemical products, which we call pharmaceuticals. Not long ago, these products were manufactured at the pharmacy. With the proper scientific advances and the development of modern manufacturing processes, the pharmacy evolved into a place that mostly makes available such chemical products and helps people by counseling them. Pedro Pita Barros enlightened us on this topic.
