Nova SBE has the ambition to become carbon neutral by 2040-45
On the 29th and 30th of November 2023, Nova SBE had the pleasure of receiving the sixth edition of Portugal Mobi Summit. This annual event is mainly focused on the future of mobility, showcasing innovations in transportation, technology, and sustainability, bringing together industry leaders, policymakers, and experts to discuss the challenges and opportunities in the mobility sector.
Nova SBE currently boasts a significant presence of international students, comprising 55% of both its Bachelor's and Master's degree programs, with an even higher proportion of 72% in the latter. This diversity is further driven by the institution's consistently high rankings across various metrics. For example, according to the Financial Times ranking, Nova SBE's Master’s in Finance holds the 11th position globally, while its Master’s in Management is ranked 15th worldwide. Moreover, the rise of its executive education program from 22nd to 11th place is also noteworthy.
Sustainability holds significant importance for Nova SBE, and while it has already gained international recognition in the realm of sustainable impact, the dean of Nova SBE has outlined plans for the future. To achieve carbon neutrality by 2040-45, Nova SBE will embark on initiatives such as generating its own energy, procuring surplus electricity from other production units for self-consumption, and has already ramped up electric energy production through solar panels. Additionally, several Sustainability-related Institutes will be established, including the Sustainability Institute, the Government Public Policies Institute, and the Design Digital Data Institute. The latter two have forged partnerships with Harvard University. Furthermore, an institute focusing on aging and longevity, developed in collaboration with Nova Medical School, is also in progress. Addressing mobility, which accounts for 91% of Nova SBE's emissions due to its status as an international university, Pedro Oliveira aims to tackle this issue in collaboration with the Cascais City Council.
Nova SBE aspires to undertake a vital role for our society, as it not only supports environmental preservation and public health benefits but also fosters economic opportunities by creating new markets.
