Nova SBE Fellowship for Excellence Program

The Nova SBE Fellowship for Excellence program is awarded to Master’s students with proven academic excellence, outstanding performance in sports, and culture, and social engagement. It prepares them to achieve their full potential as students and as world citizens by giving them the tools and the opportunity to go out into the world and leave their mark.

The Nova SBE Fellowship for Excellence was created in 2017 to help identify the most talented students in the school and empower them to change the world. It is more than just an academic award or honor. It is an ecosystem where energy and creativity turn into deeds, where aspirations and dreams become day-to-day life.

The program includes exclusive networking opportunities, social impact experiences, leadership sessions with business leaders as keynote speakers, and tuition fees support. It is awarded to students with academic excellence and high involvement in sports, culture, and all aspects of sustainability. It aims to allow Fellows to go out into the world and leave their mark.

The Nova SBE Fellowship for Excellence Fellows are unique, diverse, hard-working, and gifted students who strive to go beyond their reach and, with their talent, make the world a better place. They usually find room for an infinity of goals, other than their academic excellence, they see as accomplishments for social progress and to better as people, professionals, leaders, and citizens. On average, every year we award 50 to 60 students. Meet this year’s edition here.

The benefactors of the Nova SBE Fellowship for Excellence are corporate partners and individual donors who have accepted the challenge of being an essential part of this program. We count on our benefactors to enrich the program through financial support and be present in several moments like our “Welcome the Fellows” event, where they have a privileged and exclusive moment with the group. They also help create unique corporate opportunities for these students and play a fundamental role in helping them prove their collective potential to keep growing.

Our benefactors are Raúl Galamba & Clara Streit (MBA ’89), Amrop, Everis, KPMG, LG, Lidl, McKinsey &Company, Santander, Sonae, Unibail-Rodamco and Unipartner.

The Nova SBE Fellowship for Excellence team consists of its Founder and Chairman, Raúl Galamba, the principal advisor to the Nova SBE Fellowship for Excellence Team. The Academic Director, Professor Pedro Neves, provides academic decisions and guarantees that the program is aligned with Nova SBE’s academic goals. And finally, two Program Managers – Rita Roquette (Corporate & Donor Relations Team) and Juliana Fortes (Career & Corporate Placement) – who work together to design and implement the whole program.

The effect of a specialized versus a general upper-secondary school curriculum on students’ performance and inequality

Countries differ in their academic upper-secondary school systems whereby some require their students to choose a specialization track from a set of areas – typically natural sciences, economic sciences, or humanities – and follow that specialization for the course of their upper secondary education years whereas, by contrast, others follow a general curriculum in which students are not required to follow a single specialization and thus, may receive a more general education. This research estimates the possible effects on students’ achievement of these institutional differences.
