A new perspective on the Nova SBE Faculty & Staff Football Team: Fostering Well-being and Unity

In the bustling halls of Nova School of Business and Economics, where minds converge to shape the future of business and society, a lesser-known but vibrant community exists: the Nova SBE Faculty & Staff Football Team. Beyond the classroom walls and office cubicles, this team embodies camaraderie, passion, and a commitment to good health and well-being. Delve here into their story, dissecting it through a fresh lens, and uncovering practical insights that extend beyond theoretical musings.

The Birth of a Team

What initially started as a casual gathering of soccer enthusiasts — professors, administrators, and support staff — has blossomed into something far more significant. The soccer ball, once playfully kicked around during lunch breaks, now carries deeper symbolism: unity and shared purpose. The team’s transformation from friendly kickabouts to a competitive force resonates with the very essence of SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being. Their participation in the Cascais Super League amateur league amplifies their commitment to physical vitality and community spirit.

Importance of Physical Activity for Staff Well-being

Physicalactivity is not merely about breaking a sweat; it’s a potent elixir for overallwell-being:

  1. Boosts Energy: Regular exercise increases energy levels, combating fatigue and enhancing productivity.
  2. Stress Reduction: Engaging in physical activity triggers the release of endorphins, which helps alleviate stress and enhance mental clarity.
  3. Improved Immunity: Active bodies are less susceptible to illnesses, leading to fewer sick days.
  4. Enhanced Focus: Exercise sharpens cognitive abilities, aiding concentration, and decision-making.
  5. Social Bonds: Team sports foster camaraderie, combating isolation and promoting mental health.

Conclusion: A Goal Beyond the Pitch

The Nova SBE Faculty & Staff Football Team is not merely about goals scored or trophies won. It is a microcosm of well-being, where soccer cleats tread the path toward healthier lives. Their commitment to physical activity is not just about scoring goals — it is about nurturing a healthier, more resilient community. As we cheer for their victories, let us also recognize the profound impact of movement on our well-being.

If you would like to join this vibrant community, which already boasts 60 members — both men and women — gather every Tuesday at St Julian’s soccer field. Lace up your sneakers, email peopleandculture@novasbe.pt, and embrace the beautiful game. Whether you are a seasoned player or a curious spectator, consider this your invitation. Retirement age: One size does not fit all

The European population is ageing, challenging both the financial and social sustainability of pension systems. By 2050, Portugal will face one of the most alarming scenarios, with roughly two people aged 65 or more for every three at working age — almost doubling the 2016 figure. Reforms in the health system and the labor market are of utmost importance to ensure our pension system remains financially and socially stable throughout the ageing process of our society.
