Volunteering means giving your time, skills, or energy to help others or support a cause — without having any payment in return. It’s about making a difference, building community, and contributing to something greater than yourself.
Volunteering is one of the most powerful ways to grow as a person. It helps you develop essential soft skills — the kind that matter in every part of life, from relationships to the workplace:
  • Communication - Learn to listen actively, express yourself clearly, and adapt your message to different people and situations.
  • Teamwork - Collaborate with others, respect different perspectives, and work towards shared goals — even when it’s challenging.
  • Problem-Solving - Think creatively, stay calm under pressure, and find solutions in real-world situations where things don’t always go as planned.
  • Empathy - Step into someone else’s shoes. Volunteering exposes you to different realities, helping you understand and care more deeply about others.
  • Adaptability - Every volunteer experience is different. You’ll learn to be flexible, open-minded, and ready to adjust when things change.
  • Emotional Intelligence - Build self-awareness, manage your emotions, and interact with others in a respectful and thoughtful way.
Role to Play points are measuring units for participation in projects driven by social and/or environmental impact. They are also the mechanism that selects students for a Mention of Active Citizenship on their graduation diploma:
  • Bachelor’s students must complete 40+ Role to Play points
  • Master’s students must complete 20+ Role to Play points
Yes, if it contributes positively towards social and/or environmental causes. To register your activity and convert it to Role to Play points, you will have to submit a description of the activity, declare the number of hours you volunteered, and upload a proof of participation. The Role to Play team will then validate your proposal – kindly be patient.
It depends. In some cases, civil society organization will have to accept you first. In both cases you are only enrolled when you receive a confirmation by email.
No. You first need to:
1) submit the dates and time in which you have volunteered for that initiative/organization and
2) the organization validates the hours you declare.

Important: Organizations validate hours at the end of the initiative, in case of short-term initiatives, or at the end of the semester, for long-term ones.
There is a limit of 12 points for each activity/organization you are involved with per semester. The count will reset at the start of each semester - if you continue work with the same organization for two full semesters, you may earn up to 24 points.
