The Design Thinking Roundtable is a podcast that explores various aspects of design and how it can create change and social impact. It is a collaboration between the DESIS Lab and the ERA Chair in Social Innovation at NOVA SBE with the Design Lab @ NYU MakerSpace. Originally conceived by Harshita Nedunuri and Anne-Laure Fayard, then co created by Priyanka Vora. Since Fall 2019, it is conceived and produced by Anne-Laure Fayard. Cover art: Guilhem Tamisier.

In this episode, released on July 13th, Anne-Laure Fayard has a conversation with Joana Casaca Lemos, who runs an independent practice where she supports organizations in ensuring that sustainability is at the forefront of business. She is currently launching Unusual Research- the first global collective of creatives with sustainability expertise. The organizations Joana works with are increasingly interested in getting help in making their products and services more sustainable and how this also involves an internal cultural transformation. She emphasizes the complexity of the term sustainability and invites us to always make sure to ask for sustainability for what purposes and for whom. Last, she talked about the “qualities” of social businesses and their role in design.

THE CHOICES OF

Zona de Impacto: Mentalities evolved; however, women are still discriminated in the job market. Why?

Statistics are known. Women have a higher qualification rate than men, but they receive less (for the same jobs) and are more precarious. When it is time to reach roles of responsibility, they have a harder life (and, as the companies get bigger, the worse it is). The topic is old, solutions take a long time to produce effects, and this worries the youth. Marta Everard and Rita Mendes, students at NovaSBE and members of the club Women on Board, explain how they perceive their labor’s future
